About

Rooted in conservation, built for lasting landscapes

Marcus is a Kenyan horticulture and land management consultant with a strong foundation in environmental stewardship. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Management from Bristol West University and spent several formative years in England before returning to Kenya to apply his expertise within the landscape and environmental sector.

On his return, Marcus became Co-Owner and Director of Mandhari Plants, where he spent three years refining his expertise in sustainable landscape design, plant production and large-scale project delivery.

In 2020 he founded POA Plants (Plants of Africa) to create environmentally responsible and enduring outdoor environments. Through the consultancy, Marcus advises commercial agricultural operations, major developments, boutique residential estates and luxury hospitality projects.

He also specialises in private island developments across the Seychelles, where he leads landscape master planning, nursery establishment, ecological restoration and long-term land management strategies for sensitive island environments.

Earlier in his career, Marcus worked in wildlife conservation with organisations including Rhino Ark, the Mara Elephant Project and Eden Wildlife Trust.

Implementation

Landscape implementation & nursery development

We specialise in ultra-luxury garden implementation, creating refined outdoor spaces that sit naturally within the surrounding landscape and its conservation priorities.

Beyond concept design, we deliver fully integrated landscape solutions: soil preparation, grading, irrigation coordination, plant sourcing and phased planting programmes aligned with architectural timelines. We appoint experienced labour teams, project managers and site supervisors so every stage is delivered with precision and accountability.

A defining strength is the dedicated plant nursery. By propagating project-specific species in-house, we control plant quality, climate adaptation, supply scheduling and long-term performance, so developments can scale while keeping design integrity and environmental responsibility.

Design renders

See the garden before ground is broken

High-quality renders and detailed technical drawings communicate design intent, secure stakeholder approval and guide on-site implementation.

Each rendering shows spatial relationships, plant palettes, hardscape materials and lighting concepts, so clients can picture the finished landscape before installation. They keep designers, contractors and stakeholders aligned throughout the project.

Large-scale nurseries

Raw land to a working plant production facility

We design, procure and establish large commercial nurseries for private developers and high-end hospitality projects, end to end.

Stage 1

Site assessment & planning

Soil conditions, water access, climate and logistics, evaluated to set the best nursery layout and operational workflow.

Stage 2

Design & infrastructure

Greenhouses, irrigation, shade houses, propagation areas and storage, tailored to your production goals and budget.

Stage 3

Procurement & installation

Materials, equipment and initial plant stock sourced, then installed and tested for operational readiness.

Stage 4

Training & handover

Staff trained in nursery management, plant care, pest control and maintenance for long-term self-sufficiency.

Our nurseries serve luxury hotels seeking self-sustaining plant supplies, real estate developers needing large-scale landscaping resources, and commercial growers expanding their operations. Each one is designed for efficiency and scale, giving you control over plant quality, production timelines and supply while reducing long-term landscaping costs.

A private island nursery in the Seychelles

For three years POA Plants has built and operated a sprawling nursery on a private island in the Seychelles, cultivating every plant species an ultra-luxury development needs on-site.

Built entirely from scratch, the nursery continues to expand as a central pillar of the island's landscape and sustainability strategy. The project also includes a farm-to-table organic farm and a hydroponics facility supplying fresh produce to the island's kitchens.

Growing on the island means site-adapted plants, less transport, controlled growing conditions and careful genetic selection, with full control over timing, quality and ecological integration.
